Start with the party authorized to sell
Tell MRT who owns the inventory and who is authorized to negotiate its sale. A warehouse may hold goods for multiple customers, so physical possession alone should not be presented as approval to sell them. Include the client contact or documented authorization relevant to the submission. Unresolved ownership or disposition questions need to be addressed before a transaction proceeds.
Use the warehouse’s inventory records
A WMS export can help organize SKU descriptions, identifiers, available quantities and locations. Explain the unit of measure: eaches, cases and pallets are not interchangeable. Separate reserved or committed stock from the goods actually offered. If the same SKU appears in multiple lots, include those lot distinctions and dates instead of combining everything into one number.
- Owner or authorized seller contact
- SKU, UPC, case pack and available quantity
- Location, pallet count and storage or handling details
Describe removal and transition inventory
Share whether the merchandise comes from routine overstocks, an account transition, a discontinued line or marketplace removal orders. Explain how the goods are packed and whether they have been counted or inspected since arrival. If customer returns are included, identify them separately from unopened stock. Photos of current cartons, labels and pallets are more useful than catalog images alone.
Coordinate timing with warehouse operations
Provide receiving or pickup windows, appointment requirements, loading access and any movement deadline. Discuss pallet preparation and handoff responsibilities during the purchase conversation. MRT evaluates the lot and coordinates agreed logistics with the seller; contacting MRT does not itself authorize warehouse release or change any client’s inventory ownership.
Before you submit.
Can a 3PL submit inventory on behalf of a client?
Yes, when the client has authorized the submission and sale discussion. Identify the owner and the appropriate decision-maker.
Can I upload a WMS export?
Yes. Attach an XLSX, CSV or PDF inventory list. Make the quantity units clear and include product descriptions, case packs and available stock.
Does MRT automatically buy abandoned warehouse goods?
No. Establish who has authority to sell the goods and resolve ownership questions first. MRT reviews authorized merchandise opportunities individually.
